Is Airfare on Hold... Again?
If you're looking at return airfare options for tomorrow and Wednesday, you might want to check the weather before booking your flight.
Air travelers who are finally getting to their destinations after "Snowpocalypse 2010" are now carefully watching another winter storm that could jeopardize their scheduled return flight. According to the accuweather forecast, a new snowstorm is brewing and will hit areas from Washington, D.C. to Philadelphia all over again tomorrow. As of now, the major airlines are keeping their eye the storm and holding conference calls to plot their moves.
Last weekend, air travelers were stranded at airports all across the nation awaiting any word on their flight. Many were keeping connected via the internet, but my readers have reported widespread internet outages during the snow-in. Some of the internet outages were attributed to the heavy snowfall doing damage to lines and equipment while other outages were simply due to the number of stranded users trying to connect at any one time.
I am a huge proponent of
satellite internet because of these types of issues. This type of service at airports would not have outages, thus allowing stranded passengers to check airfare options themselves and book alternative airfare if available. I wonder how many airports use this type of service?
