I just finished reading the updated (2nd Edition) of "Airfare Secrets Revealed" (Tom Rhoades) and thought I'd share my opinion here on airfare-now.com.

My first reaction, interestingly enough, was not about the text but rather all of the included bonuses. When you purchase Airfare Secrets Revealed, you not only get the book but you also get a boatload of very nice freebies. For example:

All of the freebies will be useful, but I especially liked the butget guides for family travel and family vacations. These two guides are so useful, in fact, that I have already transferred them both to my travel laptop! I had forgotten that the eBook came with all of this other stuff and was VERY pleasantly surprised.

As for the Airfare Secrets Revealed eBook, I'm in the travel business and was familiar with many of the techniques. I did however get two very novel and new techniques that blew me away. These are techniques that the novice traveler can use but they can also be utilized by pros in the travel industry. For the everyday traveler, I thought the book was well written and would definitely make good on it's promise to deliver airfare savings strategies.

The fact is, airlines are filling up the seats faster than ever and most of the travel sites are acting as brokers to help them. Whether you book your airfare through a third-party site or you book it directly through the airline, the more upcharge you spend on your airfare, the more money they make. The objective of this eBook is to ensure that you get the absolute best price on airfare that you possibly can!

When searching for discount airfare online, you want to believe that the travel websites (Travelocity, Hotwire, etc.) are presenting you with the best possible airfare deals that are currently available. The problem with this logic however is that the online travel agents can only provide you with choices from the products and services that they have available.

The reason I'm constantly suggesting Kayak.com over Travelocity and the like is simple - Kayak is NOT an online travel AGENT but rather an online travel SEARCH ENGINE. Kayak draws on its programming reach to gather information from literally hundreds of available travel related web sources and sorts the collected data by the requested filter (flights, hotels, car rentals, cruises, and vacation packages). By presenting the collected information in this fashion, Kayak allows you to view more available options on the web.

The Kayak.com website actually organizes and displays the information it collects online, then it lets you select your deal by taking you to the actual sight where you can do the booking yourself. If Kayak finds you an airfare deal at United for example, you'll be whisked over to United to book the flight.

The process for using Kayak is fairly simple. . If you go to www.kayak.com, and you try to book a flight for example, you get presented with a window where you input your travel details. A calendar then appears on the right side of the main page that shows the best fare results made by other Kayak.com users in the past two days. This is some sort of a shortcut but you are asked to check this out as this best deal offered before may no longer be available. You can either choose a result from this calendar to proceed or you continue with your own search.

Once you make your flight selection on the next window, you leave Kayak.com and you are sent to the booking window of the actual airline website where they automatically search for the flight you initially indicated at Kayak.com. Your flight booking then continues and is finalized directly with the airline itself.
