5 Tips For Getting the Best Airfare Deals Online

5 Tips For Getting the Best Airfare Deal Online

There is nothing worse than sitting in your airplane seat and discovering that the passenger next to you paid only a fraction of what you paid for airfare. Here are the 5 simple tips to help you get the best airfare deals online.

Book Your Flight Early

It's really a myth that you can find cheap airfare by booking last minute. The best deals on airfare are usually available when you book around 6 months before your planned departure,. This is usually when the seats are first released for purchase, and they can really disappear quickly. So if you're wanting to get away for Christmas or New Years Eve, you should be booking those flights right now!

Don't Be So Picky About Airports

Discount airlines often fly in to minor airports because they don't have to pay the enormous airport fees that are charged by larger international terminals. The good news is that they pass on some of that savings to you in the form much lower airfares. You'll also get to see some unusual and exotic regional airports!

Be A Little More Flexible

Depending on your planed destination, it's often much cheaper to fly on either a Sunday or the middle of the week - particularly if you will arrange to stay over the weekend. Check airfare prices for dates that are a few days before or a few days after your originally planned date as it may have a big impact on your airfare.

Don't Ever Change

Discount airfare usually comes with a laundry list or terms and conditions. Since their cancellation and change of reservation fees are so high, it's important that you commit to the dates you have chosen and don't even think about changing them.

Use the Kayak Search Engine

The Kayak search engine will save you a ton of time and money by shopping all of the airlines for you. You simply enter your air travel plans once and then watch Kayak produce hundreds of different airfare choices for you to pick from. BTW, while online travel agents like Expedia and Travelocity are often mistaken for flight search engines, they are not. Kayak is the real deal.

Great tips! Whenever I want to find cheap flights I will often do "unreserved seats" which can be a little inconvenient if there is no seat, but a great way to save money if you're low on cash. I like these tips.

One more thing I found that seems to save me a lot of money is to book flights + hotels together. On my last vacation, I saved at least 15% by doing that.

Great website and great tips. Travelling can get expensive in peak season, so I try to take trips during fall and winter. Looking forward to more traveling articles.

As a good alternative to Kayak I would use Momondo.com or a third part. Even though Kayak gives you "hundreds of different airfare choices" there are still thoundsand airfares to choose from. My advice would be to use at least 2-3 search engines when you want to find the cheapest arifare.
