Cheapest Airline Flights? Buy the Hotel Package!

I do a lot of air travel, so I really try to use the my knowledge of the travel industry (and the various online tools that have grown around it) to get the cheapest airline flights.

While there is no single source for the cheapest airline flights because a lot of factors affect the price, there are some time-tested strategies that can push you closer to a fair ticket price. Ticket pricing depends on your departure/destination airport, choice of airline, time of travel, current events, etc., and there is no single tool that will show you the complete picture.

I will suggest, as you look at travel websites, that you consider buying a package. Buying a hotel room with your air ticket can often save you a lot of money.

3 Ways to Get the Cheapest Airline Flights as a Servicemember

US Armed Forces Qualify for Cheapest Airline Flights.
  1. Space Available Flights

If you are flexible in your travel plans (meaning you don't absolutely have to be somewhere on a specific date or a specific time), you can take advantage of the Space Available Travel program. The Space Available Travel program, often referred to as "Space A" or military hops, is a unique privilege provided to service members, retirees and their families. Through this program, you can fly for free. Flying Space A however, requires a lot of flexibility and patience.

  2. Military Discounts on Air Tickets

Many commercial airlines offer cheapest airline fights to the military community. Check out the Military Travel Discount Center for a list of the available military airfares and any other military discounts.

  3. Promotional Rates and Special Deals

Yes there are military deals, but keep in mind that military deals on airline tickets are not always the best deals out there. In many cases, special promotional rates and limited time deals that are available to civilians will offer you a better discount than the standard military rate.
